The controversial question among geologists about whether humanity is still in the Holocene geological epoch or has transitioned to the Anthropocene has spread to fields seemingly uninterested in this topic, including environmental ethics. According to Erle Ellis, at the heart of this debate is the formation of a conceptual framework that asserts a human age in which the human element has left an astonishing geological imprint in both positive and negative senses. If the human element influences the discourse on the evolution of life, what is the meaning of human existence when perception and action shape a unique value system? Bryan Norton recognized that this discourse would lead to a flawed way of thinking and acting that he called Anthropocentrism, which asserts the central position and role of humans in the narrative about the earth from a human perspective and value.Why can Ellis's interpretations of the Anthropocene and Norton's analysis of Anthropocentrism be linked and form a warning to humanity? This is because scientists and theorists recognize the devastating consequences of human actions on the biosphere. This article will focus on connecting the philosophical interpretations surrounding the concepts of Anthropocene and Anthropocentrism to form a conceptual framework for environmental ethics aimed at achieving sustainable development goals.
