Reading readiness plays a significant role in the development of literacy skills and serves as a foundation for successful learning among elementary pupils in the University of Eastern Philippines. With the increasing integration of educational media in classroom instruction, there is a growing need to determine how pupils' readiness to read can inform the design of media-enhanced literacy practices. This study assessed the reading readiness of pupils and examined its implications for media-enhanced literacy instruction. Specifically, it determined the pupils' level of reading readiness in terms of word recognition, vocabulary, reading fluency, and reading comprehension, and identified areas that require instructional support. A quantitative descriptive research design was employed involving elementary pupils selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using an adapted standardized reading readiness assessment and were analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, means, standard deviation, and one-way analysis of variance to determine differences across grade levels. The findings showed that pupils demonstrated an overall moderately ready level of reading readiness. Pupils performed satisfactorily in word recognition and vocabulary but obtained comparatively lower scores in reading fluency and reading comprehension. Significant differences were observed across grade levels, indicating that reading readiness develops progressively as pupils advance through elementary education. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that foundational reading skills through media-enhanced instructional materials be strengthened to support literacy development. It is therefore recommended to integrate age-appropriate digital stories, interactive reading resources, and multimedia-assisted classroom activities into reading instruction and propose a media-enhanced literacy instruction framework.
