This study examines disaster communication gaps and preferences among senior citizens residing within the 14-kilometer danger zone of Taal Volcano, a population uniquely vulnerable to both environmental hazards and information inequities. Using qualitative interviews and thematic analysis, the research identifies barriers in access, comprehension, and responsiveness to disaster-related information, alongside seniors’ preferred sources, formats, and delivery methods. Findings reveal that while officials often rely on digital platforms and procedural messaging, seniors place greater trust in interpersonal communication, local leaders, and culturally resonant cues. Applying Communication Accommodation Theory (CAT) as the guiding framework, the study interprets these dynamics through the lenses of convergence, divergence, and mutual accommodation. Results show divergence when officials depend on inaccessible technologies, convergence when they adapt language and channels to seniors’ needs, and mutual accommodation when both parties adjust communicative practices to foster clarity and trust. The study recommends inclusive, context-sensitive strategies such as simplified messaging, integration of traditional knowledge, and participatory feedback mechanisms. These measures not only enhance seniors’ access to critical disaster information but also empower them as active contributors to community preparedness and resilience.
